Today, 25% of New York residents have high energy burdens. These households pay more than 6% of their annual income on energy bills, and are often forced to choose between energy and other necessities.
Win Climate’s latest report, NY HEAT is a Win for Energy Affordability, finds that if the NY HEAT act were fully implemented, these households would see their energy bills cut by $136 a month, or 44%.
The report, released in partnership by NY Renews—a statewide coalition of over 370 environmental justice, faith, labor, and community groups—also includes a series of data briefings on households for counties regions across New York.
